What happens if it’s not an allergy?

Not everyone’s asthma is caused by allergies. There are some types of asthma where the immune system does not respond to an allergen, but another type of trigger, which can include: 1

  • cold or flu
  • environmental triggers (e.g. cold air, smoke, humidity)
  • exercise
  • stress
  • your work environment (e.g. indoor air pollution)
  • some types of medications (if you are concerned about your medications triggering asthma, please talk to your healthcare professional).
